MEET THE MAKER

My work is rooted in exploring the combination and form of materials and love learning about new materials from others. I thought that this was a great opportunity to collaborate with a maker with a completely different skill set & practice to myself and see what we could learn and gain from each other. I also only work by hand, so was interested in how technology could influence my making.

What is your feedback on the Programme?

I thought the professional talks were excellent- so inspiring! I loved meeting all the other participants and having conversations about the idea of how technology and craft can come together. I joined a group fairly quickly with people who I clicked with early on, and we were really excited about our idea. However, more of our fault than the programme’s, we didn’t work as much on it as we should have whilst creating our proposals. Maybe more check ins would’ve prompted us a bit more!

Five top tips you can offer others from your experience

1. Allocate more time to the proposal forming.
2. Make lists of what you can all offer the project.
3. Make sure you all listen to each other and offer supportive feedback.
4. Accept that not all your individual ideas will work with another’s
5. Enjoy and embrace the flow of learning from each other and be open minded.
