MEET THE MAKER
Bianca Koevoet makes saddles, bags and design products to present, promote and safeguard the living tradition and heritage of the historic art of riding and the craft of saddlery and design. Integrating forgotten knowledge in the craft and combining it with new scientific know-how. This creates a ‘new tradition’ for the 21st century. She researches into natural dyeing and leather processing in a sustainable process. This research forms the basis for making design products. These are unique, traditional, handmade and sustainable.
Project
A horse saddle that adapts to the horse’s body and communicates with its rider through sensor technology and an app: it sounds futuristic, but according to Bianca Koevoets, Aram Hartsuyker and Marius Stanasel, it could soon be reality.
Value iAtelier
Bianca sees opportunities for preserving the saddle making tradition on a regional scale because of opportunities in the digital field. It is important that this knowledge stays accesible locally to ensure the wellbeing of both riders and horses. Using digital tools for production, outsourcing saddle making abroad for economical reasons will not be necessary, preserving the heritage within Dutch culture.
