MEET THE MAKER
My name is Carolyn Tripp and I am a ceramic artist living and working in London. I studied ceramics to degree level at Camberwell School of Art graduating in 1998. I maintained a small scale studio practice whilst also teaching ceramics until 2017 when a change in circumstance resulted in a change of direction from casting to throwing and a new body of work emerged. In 2018 I established my own studio at Wimbledon Arts Studios and began to exhibit my work at craft shows. My current practice involves abstracted storytelling inspired by narratives taken from my own life experience. Decoration is applied to an eclectic collection of ceramic shapes originating on the wheel.
WHAT ARE YOUR FEEDBACKS?
Establishing a business during Covid 19 has been both a challenge and an enormous opportunity. Moving my business online has enabled me to generate sales and increase my audience through a social media presence. I have learnt to have a consistent voice and how to articulate why I do what I do. I have gained confidence with each sale and interaction with my buyers and have a new understanding of the patterns and processes that help to shape my practice.
In summary, I realise that I am braver in my decisions and my newly gained confidence allows me to believe in myself and my work far more. Logistics I am aware on a weekly basis of the financial status of my business which allows me to formulate future plansand execute them mindfully. I feel that finally my work and home life now co-exist harmoniously and that this is sustainable.
