MEET THE MAKER
I am a designer and my job is to find design solutions to problems of various kinds. Two elements that I have acquired thanks to my university studies come into play at the base of each project: project culture and design method. Through these two main factors, they are able to intervene in the design of the entire product system, intended as a mix between product, communication and service, managing all phases of the design process with creativity and aesthetic sensitivity. In fact, starting from the elaboration of the initial concept, understanding the problem and the constraints underlying it, I am able to control all the development of the executive project for the realization. I have acquired, throughout my training course, an adequate technical and technological preparation in the field of materials and production processes, of representation techniques and digital software of graphics, 2D drawing, 3D modeling and rendering to support the design and the communication of the project. The areas that I mainly dealt with in the university field concern the design of the product, service, graphics and digital interfaces. Through some work experience I have also been able to work in the interior design sector in the commercial and web design fields. One of the common threads that usually bind my projects is that of environmental and social sustainability, therefore the search for solutions that are based on a systemic innovation that looks at the whole context in which a project is inserted, at the inputs and outputs that generates. Another basic value in my activity, on which I worked for my three-year thesis, is that of enhancing the territory: treating the project as a bearer of material and intangible meanings strongly linked to the culture and history of a place, capable of recalling traditions and emotions.
WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO TAKE PART IN iATELIER ONLINE PROGRAMME?
I decided to apply for the iAtelier Online program for two main reasons. The first is because I recently worked for an exam on the theme of the encounter of artistic craftsmanship with digital technologies and the world of design that fascinated me a lot, to the point that I would like it to become the central theme of my master’s degree thesis. Treating this issue after having carried out this project in collaboration with Artex would help me a lot to deepen it, to fully understand all its aspects and would mean addressing the issue with concreteness and experience. The fact of being able to base my degree thesis on this issue would also have long-term implications as I would like to have a work experience abroad with design studios that have a close relationship with local craftsmanship in order to explore the peculiarities of this world even abroad. The second reason lies in the fact that, from a wide-ranging perspective, I find it a unique opportunity to be able to concretely collaborate with a craftsman by dealing with an extremely current and avant-garde topic. I am also extremely interested in deepening my knowledge in terms of digital technologies and listening to the points of view and experiences of professionals in the sector. This experience would also be a real opportunity to put into practice everything I have learned in these years of study, it would mean working with a multidisciplinary team on an issue to which I am strongly linked.
WHAT IS YOUR FEEDBACK?
Meetings with experts, as best practices and inspiration. The possibility of being followed by a competent team and tutor. The international initiative that expands the boundaries of the project.
The expert talks were points of reference throughout the design process. Assuming that they were all interesting, I found the Expert Talks 5, the one relating to ceramics, particularly stimulating, since it dealt with the same sector in which I worked with my group. Viola Emaldi brought 3 very topical cases that were very useful for our project, Andrea Salvadori with his work opened my vision on the possibilities offered by ceramics and Nicola Schiavarelli of Wasp introduced me to a lot of information that I did not know about the 3D printing. In addition to this I particularly appreciated: the artist Antonio Barbieri because he showed us how he manages to combine technology and traditional techniques; Marika Tardio because she showed us with simplicity how she approached as a designer working with artisans and how through good communication she managed to get the results she wanted; Michelangelo Guarise, I found interesting his premise on the mistakes made in the past before coming to understand the right path, together with his overview of microcontrollers that I did not know; Riccardo Marchesi for his detailed explanation of how e-textiles work and what they are.
The path taken with iAtelier Online will certainly affect my work activity as it will be a concrete experience to refer to every time I have to work with a multidisciplinary team made up of professionals with whom I have never worked.
