MEET THE MAKER
I am Lizi Chkareuli a painter, iconographer and founder of traditional crafts studio in Kazbegi region. Kazbegi is high-mountain region which has exotic beauty and peculiar colours. The colours of the nature inspire me the most and I always try to point them out in my works. Painting and iconography are my major jobs but traditional costumes and ornaments plays significant part in my life. In 2008 I establishes crafting studio where the main accent I made on restoration and conservation of traditional craft from mountain regions such as embroidery, felt making and Mokhevian region traditional costumes. I tried to show a full harmony of mountain region costumes. Georgian ornaments have sacral and symbolic meanings and when this ornaments are embroidered on costumes they transform into talismans. During Georgian renaissance period embroidery had considered as hobby of royalty. The exhibits from Georgian National Museum are my sours of inspiration.
I decided to participate in Crafting Business program to see myself and my abilities from different point of view
