The Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Tourism of Spain, through the School of Industrial Organization (EOI) and its craft promotion area, Fundesarte, has launched the sixteenth edition of the Spanish National Craft Awards, in order to grant recognition to the most outstanding practices in the field of crafts.
With this initiative, the Ministry intends to promote the development and competitiveness of small and medium-sized craft companies and encourage innovation, design, and their ability to adapt to the market. The registration of applications will be open until August 7 at 23:59 h and can be done through the Awards website.
The highest award is the National Craft Award for a consolidated work as a whole, with an endowment of EUR 7,000. In the last edition, this award went to the master craftsman of the Mudejar coffered ceiling, Paco Luis Martos. He stood out for valuing and promoting the Mudejar coffered ceiling in the 21st century, within the international market of craft ornamental structures.
The other categories, endowed with 3,000 EUR, are the Product Award, for those products or collections made and marketed in the two years prior to the call; the Entrepreneurship Award, which recognizes the entrepreneurial person or company that has stood out for introducing new concepts in the sector, as well as its ability to provide innovative solutions in the last five years; and finally, the Promotion Award for public and private entities, for institutions that contribute significantly to the promotion and enhancement of crafts.
The fifteenth edition received 92 applications from 15 autonomous communities, highlighting Andalusia and the Community of Madrid, with more than fifteen applicants each. The most represented sectors in last year’s edition were fur and leather, wood, musical instruments and textiles.
